The NTCA penalises late payment or non-payment of obligations with a late payment surcharge. The surcharge statement is a detailed and itemised statement of the surcharges charged, calculated in net amount, for the overdue amounts of the year (period indicated on the statement).
The statement will allow you to keep track of the debts for which the NTCA has charged you any surcharge, and to find out when and to which account you have to pay it.
Net late payment surcharge: late payment is not examined by the NTCA on a payment basis of each tax, but on an aggregate basis for all tax categories (except, of course, those for which no surcharge can be charged, such as late payment surcharge). The basis of the surcharge, i.e. the amount owed in each tax category, must be reduced by the amount of the surplus in the other tax category. This is the net assessment method. |
