Specimens of certain species, as well as goods made from them – such as ivory, coral and exotic leather – may only be transported with an official permit. Transporting goods without a permit is an unlawful act which may result in the imposition of a nature conservation fine or criminal proceedings, and may also lead to an imprisonment of up to three years.
